Shiite Islam and the Challenges of Present Time Conference – 14 – 15 May 2019

Rob Gleave presented at a public conference, attended by academics, practitioners, diplomats and others, titled “Shiite Islam and the Challenges of the Present Time”. This was organised by the Department of Middle Eastern Studies, University of West Bohemia (Pilsen) and the Centre of Global Studies (Institute of Philosophy, Prague) and held at the Czech Academy of Sciences.  His paper was titled, “Caution and Permissibility in Contemporary Shi’ite legal theory (usul al-fiqh)”.

Islam, Politics and Shari’a: An introduction – 31 January 2018

The LAWALISI team hosted a group of 17-18 year-old young students at the University of Exeter.  The students came from backgrounds from which university entrants are uncommon.

The team developed a series of exercises around understanding the development and dynamics of Islamic law.

The event was part of the Exeter progression program which aims to encourage widening participation in Higher Education.
